Editing the HTML of a post

I'm testing editing the HTML of a post. I've been mostly using the wizzy version of the editor. I don't think the initial version can have Markdown editing support. It's pretty tricky when you go past the basics.

Innovation: When you click on the publication date it takes you to the published post. A shortcut for the menu item.

Now I think I have this figured out.

The problem was if I use wordland.dev to write my posts, the feed emanating from wordland.social doesn't update. Or actually it would update, but it doesn't ping. So eventually the change will show up? Not sure about that. But if I stick to editing on the server that I have subscribed from then it works perfectly.

But the thing is I don't want to use the WordLand created feed at this time, I want to use the one from WordPress because it does categories and we don't (at least not yet). And categories figure heavily into what we're doing.

this shit is hard. when it's done it looks simple. but the pieces must fit together.

that's why it's soooo stupid to throw out all the interop, because it's going to take you forever to recreate it, if you ever can, which you probably can't.

this is the lesson that activitypub and atproto are teaching once again. and the people who are dealing with this have probably known it a long time.

it would be so much faster to use something that already works and is widely supported.

this is why we used mp3 in rss to make podcasting. we could have said oh shit i don't understand how mp3 works, so let's create one that does only what podcasting needs. only of course it'll turn out that podcasting needs everything that mp3 already does.

accept a win. don't feel compelled to reinvent everything. you'll find out it wasn't as easy as it looked.

Good morning everybody.

I have the timeline hooked up to FeedLand now.

It's displaying the contents of a category. Right now there's just one feed in the category, the one for Fight Club for Tech which is a site that hopefully no one follows. Not because it's such a secret, but rather I'm doing dozens of tests, getting all the wired hooked up properly.

I have to remember I have a huge set of prior art as working software in the midst of the timeline code. I have the full API for example. I don't have to figure out how to make the low-level calls work because I already have functions that do all of it, had to develop it as part of the work on FeedLand.

Anyway, having written this, when I reload my page this post should show up, and when I make a change, the change should show up automatically. I shouldn't have to do anything.

I found out why we're getting two websocket calls when a new item is posted.

We are notifying twice.

First, when we detect the new item by reading the feed.

Second, when we detect the new item by doing an SQL query.

A OS-like system that got away from me. Was all over the map covering too much territory, so I did a quick thing, without remembering a conflict.

A product as big as FL needs a team of people, and WordLand is getting there too.
